One day I was searching for Art Deco furnishings and found this gorgeous, genuine 1930s, antique mahogany fireplace mantel from 20th Century Fires.

Isn’t it beautiful? The seller describes it as:

“An original early 1930s Art Deco Fireplace Mantel removed from a house in South London.
It has a “High Deco” star-burst fan radiating from a central block and an extraordinary double shelf stepping back to the legs.

The block feet have radiating folds ascending to the top of the opening and the mantel has elevated castellations with diminishing blocks running down.” – from c20fireplaces.co.uk

Fireplace Inserts

Instead of a classic brick or tiled insert I went with a more contemporary one. Here are some contemporary, inspiring fireplaces:

These days the gas closed hearth, vent-free fireplace is becoming the “in” thing so I thought I’d try modeling something similar.

3D Visualization

I couldn’t resist modeling the antique mantel and adding a cool new insert! I changed the original mahogany material to look more like blonde oak.

I used black granite for the surround, and made a brushed silver metal alloy texture with hairline pattern for the opening. The result is this:

I added a black lacquered pedestal and voila! Our Art Deco-meets-New (Hot) Kid on the Block fireplace is complete.

Here I created a room with the fireplace as the heart (and hearth) of the home. For the mantel material I reverted back to mahogany, since the reddish hue goes well with the silver theme of the room.

I love how the fireplace design complements all things Art Deco.

I think the design is so versatile it could also be turned into a TV frame or a bed’s headboard.
